Embrace Double Gauze Fabric

Gauze is a loosely-woven, cotton fabric. The loose weave of gauze makes the cloth lightweight and breathable–great for warm weather wear. Double gauze fabric is exactly what the name suggests: two layers of gauze that are basted together. Doubling the gauze makes it less transparent and more absorbent while retaining its light and airy properties.

It is basted together every inch which gives a subtle grid pattern throughout the fabric and allows the two layers to act as one. While all double gauze fabric tends to get softer with repeated washing, Shannon Fabrics double gauze is known to be a particularly soft fabric. That is why it is favored for use in infant swaddles, burp cloths, receiving blankets, and baby garments.

Embrace double gauze also works well for loose-fitting garments such as scarves, shirts, blouses, skirts, pants, and swimsuit cover-ups. Double gauze will shrink when it is washed the first time, so it is wise to pre-wash before sewing with it.
